COLE YOUNGER ON NEW MISSION

Cole Younger arrived in St. Louis yesterday morning from his old home at Lee's Summit, Mo. He is stopping at the New St. James Hotel.
He is here on a mission different from any he has been on, and he has been sent on many desperate missions in his life, he says. This mission is not of the ones of old, when Younger and his band terrorized the country. It is one that has a love story connected with it.
He is in St. Louis to search for the wife of Captain Jack Joyce. Joyce was a cowboy with the Younger & James Show before it disbanded, and Joyce was a close friend of Younger's. Joyce and his wife separated some time ago. She left the show, and for a long time nothing was known of her whereabouts.
Several days ago it was learned that she was in St. Louis.
Younger has come to search for her, and when he finds her he hopes to effect a reconciliation between her and her husband.
Younger said yesterday that he was done with the show business for the present. He said that a satisfactory settlement had been made between the show company's backers, Frank James and himself. Frank James, he said, is at present on his farm in Clay County.
When asked what he intended to do now that the show had disbanded, Younger said:
" I have had several good offers to go into the land business in the panhandle of Texas. I have considered these offers, and as soon as my mission in St. Louis is completed I will go to Texas to look into them."

Roy Iden, aged 23 years, was shot and killed by a robber at 11 o'clock Saturday night in the butcher shop of H.M. Perry, 1117 South Eleventh street, St. Joseph, where he was employed.
Iden had just finished making change for a customer and was showing the latter a revolver, when two masked men entered the shop. They ordered the two occupants to hold up their hands. Before either had an opportunity to comply, the robbers saw the revolver in Iden's hand and one of them shot, the bullet striking the young man in the head. He died instantly.

KILLS A BURGLAR WITH A LOAD OF BUCKSHOT

While attempting to force an entrance into the rear of Cole Bros. lightning-rod warehouse at No. 720 South Seventh street at 8:30 last night, Thomas Walker, alias Skinny, alias Drake, was shot and killed almost instantly by Harry F Kretzer of No. 2900 Thomas street, who used a riot gun.
Mr. Kretzer was taken to the Four Courts, but was released shortly afterwards on $10,000 bond furnished by William H Thomson, cashier of the Boatman's Bank.
At 8 o'clock last night Mr. Kretzer, in company with Donald W Daniels, head bookkeeper, and Frank Monville, stenographer, were working in the office when their attention was attracted by an unusual noise in the warehouse. An investigation developed that someone was picking a lock. Mr. Kretzer grabbed a riot gun and looked out a window where he saw a man reaching through a hole in the panel of the door. Kretzer raised his riot gun and fired, Walker fell to the ground. Walker was taken by ambulance to the City Dispensary where he expired.
The buckshot from the riot gun literally tore away Walker's left lung. His body was removed to the morgue.
Walker was 29 years old and had been arrested hundreds of times. He served one term in the state penitentiary and four in the workhouse.
In June 1890 he was sentenced to one year in the workhouse.
October 1892 he received a six month sentence.
September 3 1893 he was sentenced again for six months.
Another six month sentence was imposed in November 1895 on burglary charges.
On December 16 he was arrested in a rooming house at No. 912 Wash street charged with stealing railroad brasses. He was discharged December 27 1897. August 30 1899 he was arrested with Thomas Kelly, alias Delvaney for burglary. On April 10 1898 he was shot in the abdomen trying to break into Joseph Tegethoff's grocery store.
