TWO SWINDLERS ARRESTED

For the past six weeks a gang of men, seven in number, have been working a game on the farmers of Lawrence county by the lightning rod scheme.
Their method was to have farmers sign a contract, which in reality was a cut-throat note.
Several farmers went to Aurora and laid the matter before Chief of Police Connor. The scheme the confidence gang worked was to have a wagon with a sample of the lightning rod and sell to a farmer, but when it came to delivery they never appeared on the scene.
Chief of Police Connor began an investigation which caused the gang to leave their wagon at Sarcoxie and take to the country afoot. Bloodhounds were sent for by the chief of police, who ran them to lamar, where two of the gang were arrested, after which one of the two made his escape from the sheriff and was trailed by the hounds to Pittsburg, Kan., and re-arrested. They gave the names of Charles Hood and Bert Parker.
