THE PARDUE BROTHERS
On Nov 13, 1969 John and James Pardue exploded a bomb outside the Sheriff's office in Union Missouri and robbed the bank 2 blocks away making off with $18,000. Earlier that year they robbed the bank in Pacific Missouri firing machine guns to terrify the employees. The brothers were linked to 5 bank robberies and 4 murders. They were captured in 1970 and John was killed attempting to escape. James was declared insane and committed to an institution. He was released in 1976 and later kidnapped and raped a Kansas City woman. He was released on parole in 1991 but was returned to prison for failing to report to a probation office in Denver. He was found hanging in his cell 3 days later.

I get a lot of information from reading old newspaper articles of small towns that people post on the internet. I get a kick out of some of them. Here are a couple from a local small town paper in 1903 called THE WAYNE COUNTY, MISSOURI JOURNAL.

November 26, 1903

Some sneak thief stole a nice pair of gloves and a muffler out of an overcoat pocket at the public school building during a session of the literary society last Friday night.Such petty thieves should be punished and this one will be if he can be found out. A reward of 5 dollars will be paid if the thief can be discovered.

December 24, 1903

Last Friday night burglars entered J.S O'neal's store at Mill Spring and blew open the safe and secured $500,00. This big haul only wetted their appetites for another raid as they went to Williamsville Monday morning at 1:30 am they blew open the safe at W.G & St.L Depot only securing about $70,00. Then they blew open the safe at Frisco Depot in that town securing $40,00 for their trouble. The burglars effected an entrance to both depots by breaking window panes. They dynamited both safes blowing them almost to atoms. They left in an easterly direction. Three strange men were seen over the weekend but no attention was paid to them at the time. There is no question that they are professional safe crackers as they done a complete job in this case. Every effort is being made to capture the burglars and it is hoped they will be landed behind bars in the penitentiary.
