These Missourians served time in Joliet Prison between 1910-1920, mostly petty criminals but it's interesting to see how much time someone would get for intent to kill (1 year) as opposed to selling a stolen horse (3 years). I went thru A-D on the website and will post more as I look them up. If anyone wants the link to that site let me know and I will send it.

More from the Journal Of American Bankers Association.

A bank in Moberly Missouri has been defrauded by a man who cashed three forged checks which bore the forged signature of D.J Grommett of the firm Grommett and Johnson contractors. It appears from investigation that these checks were probably written by one Robert Jerome,a railroad flunkey and laborer and cashed by a Roy Stevens who also worked for Grommett and Johnson in one of their camps. Jerome is described as being 32-35 years of age,5 feet 10 inches tall, weighing 190 lbs, is of heavy build, has large bulging eyes and light hair and bald in front.

A man by the name of C. Hamp Woods opened an account on October 15,1912 in Holliday,Missouri. This account he had checked out all but a small balance in the latter part of December 1912. This balance was sent to him by the bank at his request. Since then Woods has passed numerous checks drawn on this bank all of which were returned by the bank and not paid. As far as has been ascertained no bank has been defrauded by him as of yet. He is described as 28 years old, 6 foot 2 inches, 200 lbs, rawboned, medium complexion, dark curly hair, rather small eyes, upper front teeth filled with gold, wears dark Stetson hat generally dented on top, has habit of pushing hat back on his head, has scar on chin, tattooed on chest and nose is a little crooked on the end.

A woman using the name of Mrs. L.C Hall recently passed a check at a bank in Kansas city,Missouri. This check was made payable to cash, the name of one of their depositors forged to it. It was such a good imitation of the original handwriting of the depositor that the teller cashed it without suspicion. Later a second check with the same handwriting of the forged name was received at the bank. This check had been paid to Mrs.R.D Wallace in St.Louis. The woman was described as 35 years old, 5 feet 10 inches tall weighing 135 lbs. She was fashionably dressed.
