Sedalia Weekly Bazoo November 13, 1883 Pg6

WAS IT HANSON ?

Hanson, the cattle crook, a full account of whose exploits has been given by the Bazoo, seems to have been operating in St. Louis recently, under the name of Edward Webster, at least, to those best acquainted with his peculiar mode of operating.
It would appear that the following received by Associated Press, refers to the slick scoundrel who endeavored to take in Pettis and Cooper county stock dealers. It will also be observed that the rascal was partially successful in the bold game played by him at St. Louis.

It appears that Edward Webster, who narrowly escaped arrest for attempting a swindle on the Commercial Bank here a few days ago and whom the police are now searching for, was more successful with the Valley National Bank from which he obtained $2,500 by getting a bogus draft discounted and checking out part of the proceeds.
He tried the same game on two or three other banks but they would receive the proffered drafts only for collection.
The Laclede Bank is said to have been duped, but the report is not verified.
