Paul Rath, who is confined in the Moniteau county jail, under a charge of larceny, sewed himself up in a straw bed the other evening, and when the jailer went to lock him up for the night, he had to search for some time before he found the prisoner.
He had placed a carpet-sack in the hall, and fastened a blanket through the scuttle hole to indicate that he had escaped that way.
He supposed the sheriff would, on discovering this, rush off to give the alarm, leaving the doors unlocked, then he would take advantage of the excitement and make his escape.
