HELD UP AND ROBBED OF $18

James Smith of No. 727 South Sixth street, East St. Louis, reported to the police yesterday morning, that he had been held up by two men near his home and robbed of $18.
Edward Stewart and John Bittner were arrested and Smith asserted that they were the men. They say he is mistaken and will attempt to prove an alibi.

ROB WOMAN OF $1745; THIEVES RETURN $1300

Kansas City, Mo., Oct 29.--- Mrs. Jessie Anderson of Muscogee, I.T., while in a room at 511 Bluff street, was drugged and robbed of $1745.
The man and woman with her were arrested, but were released after returning $1300. Mrs. Anderson came to Kansas City several weeks ago from Oklahoma. For medical treatment, and for economy lived in the north end.
She had for eight years worked as cook in railroad camps, and the $1745 represented her savings.

Hillsboro, Mo., Apr 6.-- Mrs. Gertrude Boyer, 54 year old widow, was found beaten to death in the bedroom of her small frame house here tonight, and Sheriff A. R. McKee said Lance Boughton, 30, her son-in-law, admitted striking her with a stove poker.
