The two were employed on a dairy farm. Barnett was in the habit of worrying the boy about his work, and on this occasion while they were quarrelling Glenn picked up a stone and threw it at Barnett. The missile struck the unfortunate man on the head, fracturing his skull.
He was knocked senseless, but recovered sufficiently to get on a horse and ride to his house. No special notice was taken of the matter till next morning, when Barnett was found dead in his bed. Glenn made no attempt to escape and is now in jail.

FARMER, ILL, KILLS WIFE AFTER SHE SHOOTS AT HIM

Fredericktown, Mo., Apr. 4.-- With the body of his wife lying nearby, John Umfleet, 60 years old, a farmer, was found seriously wounded at his farm about seven miles northwest of here late yesterday.

Umfleet, before being removed to a hospital at Bonne Terre, said he had shot and killed his 59-year-old wife, a bride of 8 months, after she had first shot him as he lay sick in his bed. He said a quarrel preceded the shooting.
Umfleet was exonerated by a coroner's jury. The shooting was discovered by relatives who went to the Umfleet home on orders of a physician to remove Umfleet to a hospital for medical treatment. They found the woman dead and Umfleet unconscious.

Umfleet said that after his wife fired a revolver at him he grabbed a shotgun and shot her in the back as she fled from the room.
