HE WOULDN'T KISS HER

Mrs. Bostick shot and killed her husband about 3 o'clock in the morning at Caruthersville.
Mr. and Mrs. Bostick had a family quarrel on the preceding night, and Mrs. Bostick asked him to kiss her and be friends. He refused, and, it is alleged, Mrs. Bostick got a revolver and shot him through the heart as he lay asleep.

JAILED

A young man named Emanuel Shelton was arrested early Sunday morning on a charge of burglary. The evidence against the young chap is very straight and complete.
Sometime during the small hours of Sunday night he entered the residence of Peter Moore, living four miles northeast of town. After building a fire and making himself comfortable, he very deliberately went to work to make a raise.
Having formerly worked for Mr. Moore he was fully familiar with the premises and succeeded in securing a pocketbook, knife and some jewelry.
After securing these and getting something to eat, he went to the residence of Andy Lowe and attempted to repeat the act but Mr. Lowe awakened and scared the young man away. He was discovered by a search party sound asleep in bed at the Kirksville House and arrested.

JIM CUMMINS IN METZ

Jim Cummins, who with the James and Youngers furnished much material for the writers of yellow-backed novels in days long past, was a Metz visitor this week.
He is visiting his sister, Mrs. Louis Hennishen, west of town. He now makes his home at Excelsior Springs, Clay county, not far from his birthplace.
Jim is getting along in years, and although he doesn't look it, he admitted that he is not far from his sixtieth milestone of life's journey. He also admitted that he was still an old bachelor, but on cross-examination it was inferred that he did not expect to always remain one.

SO DRUNK HE DOESN'T KNOW

" So drunk that I don't know " is the way George Allison of North Seventh street lifelessly describes his part in a fight Saturday night. Allison says all he knows about the quarrel is that he came down town drunk and when he became sober he was in the " holdover " and he is still there. His fine was fixed at $13.25 this morning.

The Chariton Courier October 10, 1884 Pg3

Burglars have been "doing" several towns along the line of the Wabash from St. Louis to Kansas City recently. Keytesville has been fortunate in this regard this year, but it will be well for our citizens to be on the alert, lock up securely, unchain the watch dog, and load your pop, for Mr. Burglar is liable to take advantage of being unexpected.

The Potosi Journal May 15, 1895

The double murderer, Deustrow, has been declared sane by a Franklin county jury. He will now have to stand trial for his crime. Paranoia as an excuse for murder will not hold water with a common-sense American jury. Deustrow should receive the butt end of the law.

JACK STARR IS DEAD

Van Buren, Mo.--- There died here recently an old man known as Tom McKinney. He had lived in the county for 18 years, and in the memory of the people of that vicinity had passed through the various grades of prosperity, from comparative affluence to poverty. He lived alone, cooking his own meals, mending his own clothing and only went to town to purchase his necessities.

The man who died hearing the name of Tom McKinney had been a member of the most daring band which ever rose against the government. He rode with Quantrill in the days when that name was feared all over the north. The deeds of Quantrill's men are already shrouded in the mists that gather about men like Robin Hood and Francis Marion.
The name of the quiet man who died here was Jack Starr, kin of the notorious Belle Starr. He told the men at his deathbed that he was involved in robberies with Jesse James.

Fair Play (Ste. Genevieve) August 26, 1893 Pg2

During a fight in a saloon at Desloge on Thursday of last week, Bill Bone stabbed Jim Croke in the neck leaving an inch and a half of the blade broken off in the wound. Croke started immediately for St. Louis to have the piece removed, as symptoms of lock-jaw were setting in.

The Farmers' Union (Memphis, Mo) March 12, 1891 Pg3

Some time ago, S. Smith and J.A. Brown "raised" one dollar bills to tens and twenties and passed them on persons in or near Downing, Mo.
The guilty parties left for parts unknown soon afterward, but secret service detectives were placed on the track of the guilty parties and they were arrested last week in Ohio, where one of them had married a respectable young girl.
