The villainous deeds of Kate ‘Ma’ Barker and her violent sons are probably known to more people around the word due to the Roger Corman movie ‘Bloody Mama’ and the 1977 hit song ‘Ma Baker’ by popsters Boney M.

However, the dance floor ditty failed to recount the extent of the crimes perpetrated by her and the four gun-toting sons in an era that also witnessed the height of gangster crime with the likes of Bonnie and Clyde and John Dillinger. It is claimed that Ma Barker, who never actually murdered anyone, was used as a scapegoat by the notorious J Edgar Hoover and, as a consequence, was shot and killed by FBI agents under his instructions.

Ma Barker was born in the Ozark Mountains near Springfield in 1872. From an early age she was familiar with crime, particularly as one of her greatest thrills was seeing the outlaw Jesse James as he rode past her. She was devastated when he was shot and killed in 1882.

A LOT of people south of the Mason Dixon line were not fans of the fed. gov., and so they WERE fans of the likes of Bonnie and Clyde, Dillinger, Pretty Boy Floyd, etc.

Ma Barker was never divorced from her husband, George Barker. George Barker was friends with my great uncle, Thomas Jefferson McGhee, who was a lawyer...but they were friends since Indian School, in Indian Territory. So Thomas Jefferson McGhee was the Barkers' lawyer, and later paid to have Ma Barker's body shipped to Oklahoma, where she's buried in Williams Timberhill Cemetery, close to Welch, OK.

Confesses To Murder Of His Benefactors

St. Louis, Apr.1----William Church confessed today to having murdered Mr. and Mrs. Henry W. Yeater, his benefactors, at Warrensburg, Mo., last August. " I cut their throats with my razor while they were asleep," he said. Church then calmly related the details and told how he escaped from the country.
" It doesn't keep me awake at night," he continued. " Now and then I wish I had not done it. I'll take what I get without asking for mercy."
The couple had adopted him when he was a baby. He had believed the Yeaters had made a will leaving their property to a stepson, and this so incensed him that he decided to kill them.

Nice way to treat those who adopted you. Disgusting.
