DARING HOLDUP AT MARSHALL, MO.

Marshall, Mo., Mar. 22-----John Gray, a boy 14 years old, was held up on the street last night. He was taken to a vacant lot and robbed of all his valuables. The robber changed clothes with him, taking his shoes, overcoat, shirt and jewelry. He threatened to kill the boy if he told.
Today officers arrested John C. Coiner near the city. All the stolen articles were recovered.

I like when the victim is not only not hurt but also get their valuables back.

St. Louis, Mo., May 1, 1909

While burglarizing a home, Carroll Higgins was using a candle to illuminate his way. As he was taking silverware from a sideboard, his candle accidentally ignited heavy draperies around a doorway and the room was soon ablaze. The burglar quickly turned fireman, tearing down the drapes and extinguishing the flames. When he was satisfied the fire was out, he continued room to room and, despite the sleeping occupants, removed all the valuables he could find.
Captured later, he stated he couldn't leave those asleep upstairs to be burned to death, but he was surprised they did not wake up to the smell of smoke.

BOY BLAMES COMPANIONS FOR LEADING HIM ASTRAY

Lawrence Schettler, 11 years old, living with his parents at No. 2714 Mills street, is in the holdover at the Fourth District Station charged with tapping a till at the store of Mrs. R Goldman, No. 1417 Franklin avenue.
Lawrence admits stealing the money, cigars and cigarettes, but from statements he made he was the victim of several small boys, who induced him to take the money. With Francis Baylis, 16 years old, No. 2640 Franklin avenue, Kennett and Ira Waley, No. 2627 Franklin avenue, and Willie Harris, Elliot and Franklin avenues, Lawrence claims that he entered Mrs. Goldman's store while Mrs. Goldman was in a rear room. While the others "jiggered," Lawrence says, they told him to go behind the counter. A few minutes later Mrs. Goldman made her appearance, and the boys, with the exception of Lawrence, fled.
Lawrence says that Baylis, who is about 16 years old, is the leader of the crowd and did the planning. When Mrs. Goldman came in the store, Lawrence stood still and was arrested.
He admitted taking the articles, but blamed the others for arranging and helping him to carry out the plans. Later Ira and Kennett Waley were arrested and will appear with the others in the Juvenile Court this morning.
