It is beautiful just like NWA but remember, especially in SW Mo there isn't the industry or the job opportunities you get in large metro areas in NY< Jersey< DAllas, etc. Lots of farming, lots of small towns, some medium sized, but not much in the way of real large cities. The closest would be Kansas City if you are talking about true metro areas like in the East, South and west coasts. This is good, not bad as far as we are concerned.

We have everything we need within 20 minutes of our home (or maybe 25) restaurants, good shopping, medical facilities etc. In SW MO you have Joplin and Springfield.

What could be a better life, the peacefulness of the rural areas mixed with the conveniences of the city.

Crime of lack of the same was one thing we thought about as well. As you know, there is no place that is crime free, but this part of the country is probably as close as you will come. From what we have heard meth is the biggest concern in both NWA and MO, other crime is not a problem or certainly not a big problem. I think I mentioned in another thread, for the first time in years, if I accidentally leave the house and haven't locked everything up I don't panic. No, I do not mean to leave a door unlocked, but if it happens I don't worry about coming home and finding everything missing.

If you're retired NYPD, people around here would appreciate you for that and would probably like having you for a neighbor.

I relocated to MO from NJ last year. I am closer to Kansas City, but no one seems to mind at all that I am from NJ. Everyone here has been very welcoming. I would definitely recommend Missouri.

Most people in Mid-missouri are very friendly to "outsiders" we have had quite a few from other states move into our town in the past few years and I am told they love it. They all are welcomed and fit right in quickly. The price of homes and land is lower because the cost of living is somewhat lower. You can get a 3,000+ sq. ft. Earth Contact home on 15 acres for $225,000, 2,400 Sq. Ft. home on basement and 9 acres for $224,000 and some are even less. Median home prices for just a house in town would run about $120,000 - $160,000.
