Hi, I am planing to move in St. Ann, but my friends told me it would not a good place to live (because crime ratio is much higher than national average), so if you have some information whether I should move in St. Ann or not, please let me know. Thanks

First off, there is crime EVERYWHERE. I would tell your friend to prove the stats they shared with you. I live near St. Ann and yes, it has it's not so good parts, but there are some really good parts and it is convenient in St. Ann. Many of the residents have lived there just about forever. On the other hand there are lots of kids too. Also, I think it would depend on where you are moving from?

I have no dog in the fight. I just thought I'd share the info available directly from this web site. You can get the numbers by just going to the main page, clicking on Missouri, and then scrolling down to St Ann. When you click on it you'll get all kinds of info. Here's the overall numbers on St. Ann:

City-data.com crime index (higher means more crime, U.S. average = 325.2)
1999 - 658.7
2000 - 661.7
2001 - 599.0
2002 - 521.4
2003 - 520.0
2005 - 382.7

Note that numbers from 2004 are missing. That's not a typo on my part. They're missing from the site.

Also note that the overall crime stat numbers were all far above average for all years until 2005. In that year, it was closer to the national average, but still higher.

So, there's the numbers directly from this site. Take them as you wish.

Keep in mind that in any city that has a mall and lots of shopping, the crime stats are going to be higher. Particularly one as small as St Ann is (population 12,000 or so).

That said, most of St Ann is safe. There are certain apartment complexes that you'll want to stay away from, however.

Northwest Plaza, the mall in St Ann, is in decline, and I'd be more worried about it shriveling up and dying completely, and the social and economic effect that would take place in the city when that happens.

m13mar, you should repost this to the St. Louis forum. They'll be able to offer better advice.
