My husband is taking a job in Marshall Mo. We don't know anything about this town. Can anyone shed some light for us. We have 4 kids. How are the schools? Our kids are in competitive sports. Gymnastics and hockey. Does Marshall offer any of these sports?Or any of the surrounding towns? If there is a website about Marshall someone can direct me to tha would be so great.

Jennifer, what we have been doing, when searching for information on various towns and cities is just enter the name of the town and you should get some information. Almost all places now have websites, Thank Goodness.

Marshall has a fairly large hispanic pop and soccer is really big there. I know they also have baseball and football...not sure about gymnastics but it is about an hour from Columbia and there are several gymnastic programs here..

Default thank you for all your comments

Thank you for all your comments. We are worried about the area. Should we look outside Marshall? Even an hour drive for my husband isn't bad. I heard from another group that Marshall would not be their pick to settle in. What do some of you think? My husband will be working for the Kansas. Power and lights. He would be working in the Marshall area.
Thanks so much.
Jennifer

My in-laws live in Marshall and yes they do have a very big Hispanic population now. My mother-in-law lives in a nice subdivision on the northwest side of town and all her neighbors are Hispanic. If you don't mind a commute (45 mintues) Boonville or New Franklin would be a good option. And you would also be just 30 minutes from Columbia with great shopping/entertainment/dining options. Lots more than would be available in Marshall. Boonville and New Franklin schools are great with New Franklin being a smaller 1A school and Boonville is a 3A school. So it depends on if you want a big or small school. Boonville being bigger has more sports options like Football/tennis/golf/ and volleyball. New Franklin offers Basketball (several trips to the state finals), baseball (state champs) and track. Both schools have great music and drama programs. Since we are located just 3 miles apart both towns cooperate on many ventures. There is a YMCA in Boonville that serves both communities very well. I did live in Marshall for one year when I was first married and I would definitely choose Boonville or New Franklin over Marshall any day. If you want more information please feel free to give me a private email.
Carolyn

Thumbs up Marshall

I have lived in Marshall for 42 years and have found it to be a great place to raise kids. The schools are great, The YMCA offers gymnastics, swim team and other activities to families. There is baseball, soccer, golf, swimming and other activities offered though the local park. There is a city library as well as a local college too. You might check out marshall-mo.com

If you are looking for daycare/preschool, I own a small home-based daycare and preschool. (Love to Learn),(myspace.com/love2learnpreschool) My husband owns a roofing and remodeling company. He currently roofs, remodels, and flips houses. We have both been successful in our business ventures.

Anyway, I guess what I am trying to say is that Marshall is a nice town to live in. You can find many things to become involved in if you wish.

Where is your husband going to work?

I would like to thank ikldy46 for the positive reply on Marshall. I am from the East and moved to Missouri to marry my husband who lives here. We are in a neighboring town, my husband works part-time in Marshall, and when he is offered full-time, we need to relocate there. It's hard for me in these rural areas coming from the east. If you don't mind , should we move there and if I have any questions, I would like to ask you them(if I remember how I got to this site...lol). Thank you again for your positive outlook

A friend of mine lives in Marshall for about 30 yrs. I and he rate it very highly. Employment can be a problem unless you bring a marketable skill with you.

i have lived in marshall my whole life and although there isn't much here i find it a very good place to grow up and a good place for my kids to grow up i think the schools are great and they do offer alot of sports although hockey is not one of them gymnastics can be done at the ymca and i have seen people telling you boonville would be a better place to live in than marshall and i strongly disagree i used to visit my mom on the weekends in boonville and i would never dream of moving there. and although we do have alot of hispanics that live here i dont see how this would be a problem unless you have something against them. good luck with everything
