Well it happened, the UFC is going for the money and as a very casual MMA fan, I'd pay to see one of my favorite WWE superstars in the Octagon. He isn't Brock Lesnar in terms of a wrestling background but he has just as many MMA fans wanting to see him fail, just like they wanted Lesnar to fail. Should be interesting to see what weight class he falls in, and the type of excitement he brings to the UFC considering what a boring year 2014 has been.
CM Punk is different from say Brock Lesnar or Bobby Lashley who went from pro-wrestling to MMA but were amateur wrestlers like Dan Severn. CM Punk is more like Batista who came into it later in life. That's as close to a CM Punk-Batista comparison I will make as Punk has trained in MMA for some time now and even wrestled an MMA style similar to Japan who had ties with K-1 and PRIDE for a while. I don't think he will be great and will likely need a tomato can fight or two BUT, he will be a pretty good draw. I am a casual UFC fan being that most of the guys I watched have all retired or gone onto Bellator (Liddell, Ortiz, Rampage, Shamrock, etc.) but I will watch more now with the signing of one of my favorite pro-wrestlers, CM Punk.
CM Punk will sell 500,000 PPV's on his promos alone.
UFC don't really promo though. I think it may create a buzz similar to Brock's debut but not that high. This comes from a fan of both pro-wrestling and mixed martial arts.
I am very interested in this. I am confused because he went on and on on Cabana's podcast how he's all sore and hurt, now he's going into UFC....
Let's remember that his issues were back in January with the ribs and the concussion so perhaps in the past 10 months he has gotten better and octagon ready. He has bulked up since his ComicCon appearances with Nerdist on Nerdist News on the floor of ComicCon playing the fish out of water floor reporter.
I agree, their ppv buys have fallen pretty steadily, imo due to flooding the market with watered down cards, so they're trying to get a boost where ever they can.
Would love if GSP makes a come back to Welter Weight to take on Phil it would be a major pay-per view event to see GsP come back to take out a guy that has no real place being there.
Too bad he cannot have a catch weight bout with a Rehabbed Leg/Comeback fight Anderson Silva in the Light Heavy Weight Division.

nah thats nuts, your not going to take a guy who walked away from his title and feed him a guy with no back ground, no ammy fights and no credibility. hes most likely going to get a guy like diego sanchez whos desperately clinging to a once decent career. i would be surprised if he even got a top 15 guy.
