That people won't worry about panhandlers, murderers and muggers if they have a better chance of having a good time? Or did Katrina literally wash away most of that?
New Orleans usually hits the top ten for murders list, but not the top ten dangerous. Actually, cities like Atlanta and maybe Birmingham rank more dangerous. As sad as being a murder capital is, it's completely different from being the most dangerous. Most familiar with the city know, that the odds of a random crime occuring, especially around tourists is low.

Back to the convo though, As an outsider who is a little ignorant of what all Mobile has to offer I have to admit that I can't think of anything that would draw me to Mobile. Only thing that comes to the top of my head is the Battleship and Mardi Gras (which wouldn't really appeal to the typical south Louisianian). I'm sure that there are a lot of hidden gems in Mobile that are worth making that drive to see, but no one knows about them. Whenever I see Alabama advertised on t.v. or the radio they're pushing Gulf Shores. All the billboards say Gulf Shores and everyone I know who goes to Alabama is going to Gulf Shores. Maybe if the admin. in Mobile could come up with a campaign to put Mobile out there, things will improve. At least dramatically improve the shopping options, because Baton Rouge and Gulfport/Biloxi are currently more appealing in that category to anyone in my area. I think Mobile also needs a creative way to tap into that Florida/Mississippi/Louisiana traffic along the I-10 who already have their minds made up about where they are headed.

I agree^^^^^^
Mobile's leadership need to get it together. They are not marketing Mobile. Mobile has the largest bay on the gulfcoast , I know they could come up with an idea.I would put a casino ship on the bay.

Mobile has great potential being on I-10 and on the bay. Also, I don't know if it was mentioned but NOLA isn't gaining a ship, its just getting a different one.

N.O. get's two new ships in the fall, it just so happens that one is swapped with the Elation. Maybe Mobile can lure NCL. They were the only ones willing to give N.O. a shot right after the storm.

I have a feeling that NCL will give us a try.
