It is that time of the year ladies and gentlemen.Mardi Gra is in full effect in Mobile !

You can feel the spirit of Mardi Gra all over the city. Some of you may have no idea of what i`m talking about( Mardi Gra spirit). If you have experienced the Christmas spirit then you will have an idea of what the spirit of Mardi Gra feels like.Well to be honest Mardi Gra is Christmas in Mobile lol. I can smell the aroma of food in the air downtown.

Mobile first celebrated carnival in 1703 when French Settlers began a society known as the Societe de Saint Louise in Fort St. Louise de la Mobile( The original Mobile) and then the Boeuf Gras (fatted ox) Society started in 1711-1861. The first parading society/krewe in the United states was the Cowbellion de Rakin Society in 1830 that society became in active around 1912 but was revived in the early 1990`s.The oldest surviving parading society/krewe in the United states is The Order of Myths. They were founded in 1867 they usually host the last parade on Fat Tuesday on the Gulf Cost.
