My husband and I are house hunting and found a charming home in silverhill. We're not too familiar with the area but it seems to be quiet and more rural. Are there good restaurants? How is the resale value for the area? Crime rate? I've heard the schools aren't great but my son is only 1. I figure I will cross that bridge when I come to it. Overall- would you recommend living there?

Thanks!

Silverhill is nice but a bit too small for good restaurants, ect. I would suggest coming west to Daphne or Fairhope. You can find is these towns that are close to good schools and shopping and many restaurants to choose from. Good luck!

Silverhill is a very quaint little town, found by Swedes. There's a good history online you can Google for. They have a couple of restaurants, but you would not be very far from a lot of good places in Fairhope, Daphne, Foley or even the beach areas in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach. We live in Foley, but drive all over to eat. Besides golf, that's about all we do.

Thanks for the responses! We actually live in Daphne right now and love it. We would prefer to buy a home in Daphne, but most of the homes in our price range are in Lake Forrest, which is the only place my husband does NOT want to live. See my dilemma? I'm hoping something comes up soon!

I agree that Lake Forrest is not a great place anymore. Homes are older and many are not being kept nicely, plus there are many rentals...

Have you checked DR Horton homes? There are quite a few very nice subdivisions that Horton is doing, and they have them in all prices. One, name escapes me, is off 54. My husband has a client building there....homes start below $200 and go up. I'll give you a name later if you are interested.

There is also Bay Branch, by Adams homes. They are quite reasonable also, although I feel Horton homes offer more choice of subdivisions.
