You will find that the active, outdoors type people are also the most educated and friendly. Go out to some of the fun runs or get up with a local biking group and you will meet tons of great people.

I have some friends who go to the gulf every year for a few months. They have no problem making friends that are in the condo they stay at in GS, although it might be harder to meet people who live there year round.
