Mobile is French-founded, Catholic, has Carnival...so in what ways is it different from New Orleans?

Mobile is mostly Protestant and more "Anglo" than New Orleans. They also don't have a reputation as a "sin city".

Agree, Mobile is the more family friendly version of New Orleans in a small way.

It is pretty similar, just on a smaller scale.

The french influence is long gone in both places, only remnants of their colonial pasts left.... still works great as a touristy draw

Frenchmen Antoine De Cadillac founder of Detroit was governor of Mobile before he estaished Detroit. He lived on the Corner of Royal and Conti Street. There is a marker with his name on it and he lived on Dauphin Island as well.

Nola and Mobile are siblings raised by two different parents.Nola reserved more of it's history while Mobile didn't that is what make them different Its the up bringing. Both cities share the same DNA. Both have French , Creole , Spanish and African roots. Both cities have historical ties to Haiti and Cuba. I mean the neighborhoods are the same a lot of Mobiles midtown and down the bay neighborhoods remind me so much of Nola's inner neighborhoods. Again to sum it up Mobile lost a lot of architecture but we are so rich in history in spite of our losess we are still historical in nature. and a lot of culture has been lost as well . Mobile has the same street names as Nola but they are in American rather than French. E.g ( Dauphin , Royal , Conti ,Joachim , streets named after saints , and soooo many others.

Mobile was the original capital of Louisiana Territory before eventually being moved over to what is now New Orleans. Mobile is still a very culturally Spanish/French/Creole/Latin city, and they also partake in the Carnival Mardi Gras tradition annually.

Many descendants of Creoles in the area still speak the traditional Spanish, French, & Creole languages. Interestingly enough, up until recently many Creoles upheld & maintained their own clubs, picnics, reunions, schools, churches, institutions, fire stations, departments, foods, meetings, social gatherings etc & much more!
