If they tear down the civic center, a much more impressive, grander structure must be put in its place. Something that will attract top talent and shows from all over the country. If not, then a huge opportunity would have been wasted.

Do you think that Mobile has the potential to pull such acts? The only time we see top talent is Bayfest IMO....people will drive to New Orleans Pensacola or the casino for a good show!

One thing is we don't have decent venue. Soul kitchen and Saenger are just too small for big acts and the civic center is falling apart. Have you been in lately? However, I hate to see it torn down. If we had a decent venue I think we could big names here.

Bel - Air is getting a new retail manager.

Quote:
Jim Adkins, an Atlanta retail manager with more than 25 years of experience, will be in charge of managing the Bel Air Mall. Adkins will move into the position immediately, according to a spokesperson for the mall's owner Rouse Properties.

Adkins, who previously managed large regional shopping centers such as Atlanta's Lenox Square Mall and the Faneuil Hall Marketplace and Burlington Mall in the Boston-area, was named general manager.

The mall had been without a permanent manager since Rouse purchased the 1.3 million-square-foot property last year for $1.65 million. The real estate investment trust owns a number of regional malls around the country, but the Bel Air Mall is one of the largest properties in its portfolio.

The company announced last month that the New York-based restaurant Grimaldi's Pizzeria will move into the mall. No other new tenants have been announced by the company.

Akins comes with experience in retail leasing for a variety of centers, including malls, lifestyle centers, transportation hubs, street and open-air grocery-anchored shopping centers, the company said.

When I was growing up in the 70's ALL the big names made stops at the (then) Municipal Auditorium. Don't see any reason that would be any different now.
