Interesting link PortCity. Thank you. Entertainment districts are pretty popular ways to enliven an area.

It would be great if the city turned the old red light district into a cultural arts district.

In The News

Haint Blue Brewing Co.
The circuit court judge has ruled in favor of Haint Blue Brewing Co.'s zoning variance in Church Street East, according to Lawerence Specker at AL.com. This comes after a lengthy court process that began when a neighbor appealed the original zoning approval back in December. There is a possibility that the neighbor may appeal again. All we can do is pray to God that poor neighbor finds peace and moves to Malbis.

New Airport Authority Executive Director Not Opposed To Commercial Flights Out Of Brookley
According to Fox10's report, Chris Curry, the newly appointed Executive Director of MAA, sees no reason to not consider having commercial flights out of Brookley if airlines would be in support of it. He plans to oversee a feasibility study as soon as possible.
"...if it's determined that certain airlines would prefer to operate out of Brookley, then why should the airport not consider allowing them to work out of Brookley? Because when you look at what is the best place to draw customers and the best benefit to customers than we should be open to any of those ideas."

5 minutes from the city center, business headquarters, hotels, and directly off of I-10. Am I missing something? How has this not happened?

Southern National Has Soft Open
Southern National had a soft opening Wednesday night for the Rotary Club. The Southern Rambler was there and took photos which you can find on Facebook. I would guess a grand opening is due soon, but the last I heard was that it would open January 2018 from a Panini Pete's podcast last month with the owner Reggie Washington. Anyone have any scoop on the opening?

I don't want commercial flights out of brookley. The cargo planes make enough noise flying over midtown. They shake my house and wake up my kids. ...they need to consider the damage to values to homes in midtown. I already know our neighborhood will fight it. We have already talked about it.

Pretty sure it wouldn't matter how much your neighbors fight it, if they want it to happen it will happen.
This isn't a dunkin donuts that you can fight with a petition to keep your neighborhood "quaint".
I live in midtown as well. The planes we hear now are just a minimal nuisance for a few seconds.
All major cities deal with air traffic. It's not that big of a deal.

Having commercial air traffic at Brookley just make sense for the local economy.
It keeps eastern shore flyers in Mobile instead of Pensacola.

I can't wait to book a flight out of Brookley and not have to make the long trek down Airport Blvd to catch a flight.

If the Airport Authority closes the N-S runway to commercial traffic (it's already a lot shorter than the NW-SE runway), then the majority of the noise will be over the waters of the bay and the I-65 retail areas. Midtown and downtown would be completely spared from most, if not all, noise from commercial aircraft.

That's what I was thinking.

And speakimg of airrcraft, Mobile could soon be home to a 2nd final assembly line.http://www.al.com/news/index.ssf/201...al_mobile.html

Civic Center repurposing plans : Alabama Local News, Breaking News, Sports & Weather - AL.com

What ideas do you guys have for the Civic Center ? I think it should be expanded to seat 60-70k with deck parking.

At one time former mayor Sam Jones wanted to turn it into an Atlantic Station type of development.
