There has been a lot of movement in the Midtown apartment market over the last several months. Azalea Court is being redeveloped at the Loop and the St. Charles Apartments on Government Street in Oakleigh will be redeveloped into a much nicer apartment building. I also heard another apartment complex on the southern edge of Oakleigh will also be redeveloped.

The funny thing is that all the buyers and investors are from Birmingham and Atlanta. I know several of the developers have been investing in Birmingham's historic areas and downtown. The real estate world in Mobile is so slow moving when it comes to new trends in the market.

Do you know if these renovations were approved for the Historic Tax Credit before it was allowed to expire this year.

The state legislature really showed their usual lack of insight into progress by not renewing the credit. Hundreds of millions of dollars are being invested in Birmingham right now that would not have been circulated into the economy without this impetus.
These building don't make economic sense unless there is help dealing with things such as lead paint and asbestos. A very expensive process.

Mobile and Birmingham have always been good sister cities. First because Mobile has always shipped so much raw resources from central Alabama, and of course thousands of people from the Birmingham area have always had condos on the coast and visit Mobile. I hope the two areas, with some others in the state can get the Historic Credit back on the books to continue what has just gotten started.

The projects I listed above are being completed by bank financing. yeah, the tax breaks should come back. Imagine the projects not getting done now.

Don't know any particulars on the owner, but my guess (considering the size of the space and the surrounding area) is a local operation.

That bakery is G's Bakery and Cafe. It's a local shop. They will serve local restaurants and hotels while they finish up the public shop area. They hope it becomes a local neighborhood hangout place like cream and sugar in the Oakliegh Garden District. They will serve breakfast lunch and dinner.

I'm glad growlers is opening. I might stop by this Saturday.
