All of downtown is safe? Any particular areas you would live in yourself?

How much should I expect to spend if I can find a 2/1 bungalow (or close in size) about 1,000 sq. ft. with a garage preferably? What perimeters would the cost be in? From what I can tell, it looks like I should plan on spending $90-120K? Wrong? Right?

Seems to me that a bungalow is alot cheaper in Mobile than your lofts or condo converted office buildings.

Default Costs

I private messaged you.
I'm finding that renovated in really good area it will be about $160.00 a sq. ft.
Not renovated(within 20 years): $100.00 a sq ft. However, there is a big problem with owners thinking their home is worth $160 a sq ft because they apparently can't differentiate between well-renovated and 1980's renovation.

If it's renovated, and $100 a sq ft, probably in an iffy area. This can still be a good deal depending on some things, like if a revolving fund has adopted the street. You can count on Midtown increasing, especially if it's in an historic district.
Find historic district limits by going to Welcome to the City of Mobile Alabama and visiting the Mobile Historic Development Commission, which is at Mobile Historic Development Commission . There are some interesting things to read there as well.
Oakleigh Garden District just had its limits increased and Leinkauf plans to increase theirs. This is a great thing that encourages development in areas that would never have hoped to. We can expect to see more areas added to the historic districts as time goes on.

There are some areas like Ashland Place subdivision that can approach $250 a sq ft.

I love the De Tonti Square Historic District(few streets north of immediate downtown) and also the Church St. East Historic District(just south of Government ST.). Both are very quiet and very safe, residential areas. You do need to be aware that some parts flood during hurricanes, but many homes are high up on piers. 1st precinct is super close if you need the police. There is also precinct on Dauphin Street (Cathedral Square).

I would also live in the condos around Dauphin Street in a heartbeat, but I have children.

You will find older, single and married, active ladies in those areas definitely. Know several who are very active in historic preservation. They are very cool, too!
