My wife and I are from Iowa. Last year I took a month's vacation down south to get away from the nasty winter weather. Right before Corona hit, I was down spending time on the Mississippi Gulf Coast and decided to head over to Mobile. I only spent a day there but what I saw and experienced I really, really liked. So much that I'm bringing her with this time. I ate at Spot Of Tea downtown and I fell in love with their CJ's Bisque. I even drove back to grab two pints to go before I headed back north.

Being cajun country, I'm curious what you all think are the best local spots for food, and any recommendations on specific dishes. We really like seafood - we get none of that besides frozen up north, and we also love cajun food, burgers, and occasionally pizza. I just want thick, melt in your mouth, good southern food.

We will be there for 5 days.

Also a bonus question : any other things to do in Mobile besides the battleship? We are in our 30s so we could do nightlife - we're just not college partiers. I like historical stuff like plantation houses and I love craft beer as well (am aware of Serda). I'm also a musician. Not sure if any of that helps. Thank you so much in advance!

I love the Spot of Tea !

I would recommend :
Dumb Waiter
Noble South
Southern National offers brunch also
SOCU ( don't go on weekends it can get crazy)they do offer brunch
VON's Bistro
Both Humming Bird Way and Challaghans are tucked away in the Historic Oakleigh historic district. It's a very nice charming Historic community.Callaghans has some of the best burgers in the South.

Mama's has great southern food

Harberdasher is pretty good also.

Cafe 215 for the wraps and pennenies

You have to stop by Mo Bay Beignets and try Mobile's version of the French dessert.

R and R seafood
Blue Gill

I really didn't care for Dauphins but my wife loved it but for what it is worth the view is amazing you may like the food better than I did but you will definitely love the view.

Check out the Las Floriditas bar. It's a hidden bar in an under ground vault. You have to check out their social media to know the password forbeach day to enter. They have a very small Cuban menu but man it is good.Speaking of Cuban you should try Roosters as well.

As far as things to do there are several breweries downtown that always have events and live music. Check out the Mardi Gras Museum( Yes we are the home of Mardi Gras in America lol), Dora Finley African American teail to learn about Mobile's Creole past, The Cathedral Basallica is worth visiting even if you're not religious, There are Histroic home tours, and the Historic Museum of Mobile is pretty cool.

You guys can take a steam boat ride of Mobile river and bay on the Perdido Queen. The food is served by Dauphins and they usually have live music, mystery dinner theater or Dinner with paint and sip.

Take a Mobile delta tour on an airboat.

I hope that helps.

Thanks for all the info! Would you recommend the Bienville Bites tour at all? Or is it kind of a rip?

100% recommend Bienville Bites tour.

Here are some other places to check out:

NoJa - It's, in my opinion, Mobile's best hidden gem. Great staff, great food, amazing atmosphere, and not a lot of people go there. Get the ginger donut...sounds weird, but its amazing.

If you like craft beers check out Old Majestic Brewery. Great beer, cool location, and next to the Cheese Cottage so you can get some nice sandwhiches or cheese boards.

Nova - Great small coffee shop if you are into that sort of thing.

I also agree with the above poster...Dauphin's is all about the view, and the food is subpar in my opinion. I would hit either NoJa or Hummingbird Way if you want a nicer experience.

Great recommendations from all.

Since you mentioned that you are interested in Plantation houses, maybe check out the Bragg-Mitchell Mansion.
