I think it'll be a couple years before another town incorporates itself in the area as there seems to be no current drive for any of them to incorporate but what unincorporated communities will incorporate themselves next?

I think there's a couple good candidates. I think the most obvious one is Grand Bay. They have a solid central business district with basically everything you would need with a growing population in the surrounding area. If they wanted too they could become a city instantly, I'm shocked they haven't yet.

I think a solid runner up would be Bellfontaine. I don't know if it would be called Bellfontaine or Fowl River but I'm gonna stick with Bellfontaine as that's the Census Designated area and it sounds cooler than Fowl River. Bayley's Corner would serve as the central business district with a bank, grocer, and even a hardware store. A restaurant, bar, dollar general, firework/feed stock store, and discount store also accompany the intersection. I also think this will be an area to watch as according to Mobile MPO the area that encompasses Laurendine road-DIP-Fowl River road-Bellingrath road will be one of the areas to undergo major suburbination and predicts well over 1000 homes being constructed in this 18 square mile area over the next 20 years. Bayley's Corner is the southeast corner of this giant rectangle. So it would have plenty of land to incorporate. Suburbs are already popping up on the west side but are too far away for the hypothetical town to annex in the beginning. The area along DIP is experiencing a housing boom. Looking on google earth pro there's orange dirt everywhere and new houses popping up, including a new subdivision just south of fowl river bridges and about 15 houses under construction around Bayley's Corner. So I feel this is another area that could easily incorporate if they wanted to.

West Mobile if Sandy does not win. People in annexation committee are already talking about it.

Theodore. Ton of growth and adverse to annexation. A lot feel threatened by Mobile and loosing their identity..... whatever that means.

Yea they should be trying to lose that identity they have lol. Anyways that's a possibility but Mobile could just annex Theodore Dawes to Pascagoula Road and completely stomp that chance out as that would be the only business district that Theodore would have. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if the next attempt at annexation for Mobile would include Theodore Dawes corridor as it will contain the new casino (assuming that it actually passes legislation this time)

Hahahaha so people that moved outside the city want to dictate who the mayor is? That’s hilarious

No, oh course not. They are staying pretty quiet during the election as they don't want to appear to be trying to influence the election. They have hope that they might be able to persuade the challengers if they win. They are just discussions within their group and nothing was said publicly by the group.

They are just looking at their best interest. Fred and Karlos are both against annexation and are unsure if it will happen under their administrations. Karlos has also expressed interest in pulling back the police jurisdiction without annexation. That would be devastating for their entire community.

Chris Elliot's new law passed and gives cities that exact option. They are worried about the stability of their neighborhoods and need guaranteed fire and police. If the city keeps going back and forth, they won't have a choice.

Honestly, I don't blame them for starting to look at other options.

I'd start thinking of my options when my gravy train of living just outside the city but reaping most of the benefits runs out. Of course, I'd want to get into the city, firstly, though

Anyways, I'd like to think the City Council starts to see the light after the election regardless of who is mayor

I hope so too because there really isn't much land left for organic growth within the city, they need to start pulling fresh land from outside. The big areas are in Tilman's Corner, Cottage Hill and Sheldon Beach Road, that's really it

Exactly. They need to plan. It isn't fair that we are subsidizing them.

Finger's crossed the minority on the council that don't want annexation come around. I think the mayoral election is why the three council members are blocking it.

This is exactly why most everyone is decrying their actions as a near-sided political boondoggle.

Imagine our potential if we annexed as much land as Huntsville has? I would have no doubt our population would reach 250k easily, maybe even 270k
