No, I was referring to the Daphne/Fairhope area. I would avoid the downtown and mid town areas. Of course regular posters on this forum are going to disagree, but I have relatives and friends who still live in the area who tell me that crime in the Mobile area has skyrocketed. You need to check it out for yourself before you decide where to live. You might also consider the Cottage Hill area.

As a current resident of downtown/midtown, this line of thinking is misplaced. Crime may be up in Toulminville or Maysville (don't know true figures), but that doesn't really affect the DT/MT areas as a whole.

And, personally, 051873pi, I would listen to the locals over someone that still "knows" people there.

Just as I said, some 'locals' are going to defend the downtown area. I still have relatives and friends in the area who say otherwise. My in-laws live in an historic home in downtown Mobile in a nice area, and my father-in-law was robbed at gunpoint while on his porch. I strongly encourage you to not listen to anyone on this thread, including myself, and check the crime statistics out for yourself.

That doesn't make an area necessarily dangerous. There were a string of robberies a couple months ago on Cottage Hill, does that make the area dangerous? No it does not, in fact that is an area you are currently recommending. Looking at crime statistics, Midtown is just as safe as west mobile, including cottage hill

With a crime rate of 37 per one thousand residents, Mobile has one of the highest crime rates in America compared to all communities of all sizes - from the smallest towns to the very largest cities. One's chance of becoming a victim of either violent or property crime here is one in 27.

Perhaps you'll like City-Data's statistics better. Per City-Data, Mobile's 2018 crime index (latest available) was 453.1, almost double the national average of 270.6. Again, I strongly encourage the OP to do the research him/herself.

Violent crime was up between 2019 and 2020.
