Just did a college road trip and visited the University of South Alabama, University of North Alabama, and Southern Mississippi. My daughter is a Jr. in college looking to go south for Nursing. USA has a fabulous nursing program, but will be the most expensive since they do not have out-of-state waivers for good academics. Both UNA and USM would automatically be 6-7k cheaper due to this. Southern colleges are much cheaper than here, very pretty, and the main draw is the weather! We are leaning towards USA since we loved the campus and nursing program, but being from Ohio, could use some advice! Any and all advice will be so welcome about the colleges or cities in general!! Safety is a big concern, as well as plenty of students staying on campus most of the time (since she obviously will). THANKS!!!!!

There have been a lot of rapes and robberies lately on the USA campus but I think it may be safe now. Just be smart and don't walk alone at night watch out for black people in hoods. I don't know about the nursing program. I did not major in that.

What?

The nursing program at USA is great, and I'm not sure what the above is talking about. Am 3 years removed, but the USA campus is completely safe imo. I'll have to research the above post.

When you say 6-7k more expensive, is that per semester or through the entire program? I would think the later. If the later, it might be worth it.

Well that didn't take long to research. Guess there was a string of dorm room robberies in December of 2009. That sucks. Campus statistics show that as a whole it is still relatively safe.

Yes, one current student did say something about robberies, but that they are moving the police station to the other end (where there are tons of dorms.... don't remember their names). Thanks!! Yes, 6-7K per year, and yes, I think it will be worth it since I can't find any nursing programs that can compete... plus it is one of the few that offers early entry into the program with good gpa and at least a 25ACT. Most places you have to wait 2 years, then apply to get into the program. Thanks for the responses!
