What the Helena secular-progressive-liberal Leftist education establishment is attempting to do is an excellent reason to abolish gov't schools and parents/guardians can send their children to the secular or religious private school of their choice.

I had a few friends from WV call me about this. They said - "Where in the Hell did you just move to? We thought you moved to Montana, not San Francisco!"

Geez- the extent of my 'sex ed' to my son at the age of 5 went something like this- "Dad? What's that dog doing on top of our dog?"

"Just turn the hose on 'em kiddo."

I can assure you my wife and I are absolutely against this proposed addition to the curriculum as presented- and my wife is currently working towards her masters in education.

The curriculum is crazy enough, but the national news is worse... My opinion: Montana is better off staying off of the national radar, but unfortunately there are those involved in media that feel differently.

Default update

Well, the school board has backed down from a direct confrontational approach, and is trying to figure a way to reword the document so they can still get their agenda through.

Quote
"Should the curriculum be approved by the board of trustees in October — with or without any changes — it likely would be implemented in the classroom in the 2011-12 school year. An instructional coach would be hired this year with remaining federal stimulus dollars to work with curriculum administrator Teresa Burton to begin the implementation process, which includes choosing instructional materials, training teachers and determining how the comprehensive curriculum would be introduced."
Endquote

The whole article in the local rag can be read at http://helenair.com/news/article_b9c...cc4c03286.html
It looks like this garbage came from trying to get more federal tax money by complying with a federal mandate to introduce this into schools.

After receiving over 3000 comments, "both for and against", It appears that they got their fingers burned, but haven't given up on getting their political agenda forced into the local schools.

What a crock.

If nothing else maybe this will motivate parents and others to keep an eye on what is going on in the entire school system.
Sounds like a rear end runaround...

Curious -- Is it simply the "gay" thing that's being objected to, or the health/sex ed curriculum as a whole?

From the news coverage I've seen and read, it's the health/sex ed curriculum as a whole.

It's mostly the fact that it's targeted for very young students. K, 1st, and then 5th grade. Most folks think that's just a tad young to be discussing anything about sex ed.
