Hi there,

I never post on this forum but I'm an RN moving to the Whitefish/Kalispell area to teach at the local community college. There's Northwest Hospital in Whitefish, and Kalispell Regional Medical Center in Kalispell. I did my nursing pre-reqs at the Community College 7 years ago. Maybe the winter was mild then, but I didn't think it was too bad. I commuted daily from Whitefish to Kalispell all winter long, and the 2-lane highway was always clear and easy to drive, even in a 2WD pickup. Get a job lined up before you move out to MT, though, as they're not easy to come by. Best of luck to you!!

Been doing a bit more research too into this whole MT vs. ID debate, is it true that land is cheaper in ID basically right near the MT/ID border? Towns like Mullan, Kellogg, Salmon and even Mackey look appealing if this is true....Thoughts?
That was my impression in 2007-08 when we looked for property. We were looking for acreage on both sides of the border, and found there was much more land available, and less expensive, on the ID side. We ended up buying land in ID one mile from the MT border. The view from our future front porch is a huge vertical chunk of Montana--the Cabinet Mts! And there are lots of appealing factors about some small ID towns other than their proximity to MT, but it depends on what you're looking for.

Hi again.

1. Taxes are much worse in Idaho.

2. The worst places for cost of Housing in MT are Flathead Valley, Bitterroot Valley, Bozemen, and Missoula. Otherwise cost of living is pretty good. Home prices are much better he in Hamilton than they were in Portland and you get quite a bit more land for your money.

3. Philipsburg. Medical Center(Granite County Medical Center), Charming old town, beautiful valley.

The things you like and want can be found in many different places. Montana is great choice considering your requests. MG my fellow resident of the Bitterroot is absolutely correct in suggesting you visit.
