I just recently registered a pickup valued at about $15,000 and it was about $175 for a first time registration (1 year). I believe each county has a different rate that is used to calculate the fees. There is no State Tax so unfortunetly you won't get a credit for tax paid in another state. I was able to call the county office and they gave me the total for registration, it was pretty easy. If you have a vehicle that is more than 11 years old you will have the option of a lifetime registration, pretty nice!! There is no inspection or emissions required.

property in montana is expensive in my opinion, especially when you concider the average income here is 24.044 dollars per year... and the average home price is around 200.000... I have lived in montana most of my life and struggling is a way of life for most... places to live in the country are very hard to have as most of montana is owned by huge ranches... around where i live there are places in the country,"Columbus" but there is little to no water here and most people out of town haul water and fill a cistern at there home.. and every year it burns here "forest and prairie fires are common... I have a little 1100 square foot house in town 3 bedroom 1 bath, taxes are 1200 dollars per year and the house cost 145.000.. All that open you see while driving in montana is mostly private, only 11 percent of montana is public land, and six of that 11 is land locked by private land...Dont get me wrong I love Montana in many ways and for many reasons.. But we are hopefully soon moving out.. maybe someday when I dont have to work and dont want much out of life or my family dont need to or have the desire to prosper we will move back...

Are these household numbers or individual? Gallatin County shocked me but I'd like to see what the 2010 numbers come in at now with all the housing-bubble construction and real estate jobs taken out.

Household income.

I agree, I would even like to see the 2009 numbers when unemployment jumped like it did.
