But ythe op didn't ask what different regions of MT are like, they asked about the entire state. You can't answer the poll as written.

I voted for the Dakotas, Minnesota and Wisconsin, but it was mostly the Dakotas I had in mind. The PACNW (with the notable exception of Idaho) is, at least from what I've seen, really not all that similar to Montana (unless we're to say that Missoula is most representative of Montana, but any Montanan knows better); however, the eastern areas of WA and OR may also be exceptions, considering that the more urbanized western areas of both states tend to wield a lot of political power in state affairs, thus overshadowing the psychocultural aspects of eastern areas.

As for Canada's western provinces, I'm sure that most Canadians (yes, even from the provinces you mentioned) would highly resent the suggestion that any of their provinces even might be psychoculturally similar to any American state, let alone Montana. I don't think there are many other populations in the western world that are as disdainful of the U.S. as the Canadian public generally is, which is why I'm always so baffled at the fairly common sight of the Canadian flag being flown in this state (I'm sure I'm not the only one whose noticed the maple leaf being flown at shopping centers, hotels, campgrounds, rest areas, etc). I can't help but feel somewhat irritated when I see it, and the fact that so many Americans/Montanans excuse the pushiness and subtle pretentiousness of Canadian visitors (and fly their flag) only irritates me more. Believe it or not, people, I'm not alone in my opinion, but take it or leave it. I shall now digress...

Anyway, I would say that Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, North Dakota and South Dakota could make a pretty pleasant family overall (I'm tempted to include Colorado, but I have some reservations). In terms of regional residence, though, I don't think I could live anywhere that isn't encompassed by the Rocky Mountain region. Simply the best.

I agree WyoEagle. Sometimes I think posts are boring, but I sure don't call people out on it. Boring and offensive are two different things. I actually thought it was a very interesting post.

Your handle is hilarious! Right you are.

I voted Alberta et al. The Glaciers and the plains continue on similarly into Canada immediately above.

Remember, Montana is the size of the whole north east combined, and still has less than 1,000,000 people.

You have from urban, to very rural. You have areas that have large numbers of immigrants from places like Southern California, to areas that rarely see a new person moving to town.

Trying to say residents of a state like Montana is like some other area, is not something reasonable to do. It depends on which part of the state, you are comparing against other places, as to what the answer would be. That is because people from different parts of the state are different, as their lives are so different.

Bankers and lawyers in Billings, are not the same type of people that grow wheat on a huge acreage just a couple of hundred of miles away. Corporate executives are different, than cattle ranchers in another part of the state. The people living in the village of Big Sky ski/tourist area, are different than those working the oil fields in North East Montana. And Montana has Indian reservations (7), some of which are bigger than the small states.

The answers you will get to such a question as this thread asks, will depend on what part of the state the person lives, and their field of employment and social life they live.

It is an impossible question to answer, and any answer you get will only be partially right.
