The local paper here in Helena has run several stories as of late on the proposed state museum. This has been an issue for years but its really a hot topic lately.

Proposition #1--

The state could purchase the land the shopping mall is sitting on and build its museum there. Originally they were going to refurbish and rebuild the old mall and turn it into a museum-- I think they have now decided that it would be better to knock the mall down and start over.

An advantage to the mall location is that there would be plenty of space to display all of our states artifacts. There would also be plenty of parking for museum visitors.

Proposition # 2--

Build the new museum across the road from the current museum. This would be cheaper and easier to get done. The down side to this plan would be the limited space. The museum would not be as big and the parking for visitors might also be a problem. One real up-side to this location is that it is much much cheaper than the mall location.

I know these projects take a lot to get off the ground but I have to say, I am VERY disappointed with the snails pace that this project has taken over the years. This has been going on for years and years it seems there have been road blocks at every juncture. MAKE A DECISION GUYS! Lets get our states treasures out of storage and get them displayed so our citizens can enjoy them. The current museum is only showing about 10 percent of our states collection, we need a museum that will properly display and preserve our historical treasures.

What do the people of Montana think? Do those who live a distance from the Capital have an opinion on this?

Our town along with a local family who generously donated land, just built a historical museum that will showcase the history of our valley and town. It's really just getting started and contributions in the form of relics and knowledge are being sought after.

Hot Springs, it's on your right on the shortest state highway in the state of Montana, (state highway 77). It's just before Camas road as you approach town and if you pass the school on the left then you passed it and your already in town ! Also it's not open yet but the building is in place and the project is still being put together. As you come into town you'll will see the building with the sign if front that says "La Rue, Hot Springs Museum".
