Hiya! I'm visiting family in early July, they live an hour west of Philipsburg, just off of Rock Creek Road. It's been nearly 2 decades since my last visit and I'm eager to get some photos of some gorgeous views. I've scoured some websites and the fancy image feature on google maps in hopes of finding a few specific places, but I still feel a bit apprehensive. I know the area is exploding with wonderful scenery, but I would like a few specific spots to check out, even if I have to hike/horseback ride/4 wheel drive/or kayak to the location. Well, probably not kayak, my camera isn't waterproof...perhaps if it were a calm stretch with very little chance of capsizing. You get my drift, I think. I'm willing to work for a good photo.

I'd REALLY love to find an area that is suitable for a good time-lapse, as well. Maybe somewhere fog rolls in/out or where the shadows of the clouds can be seen clearly across the landscape? I've asked my family, but I'm afraid our opinions differ and most of their experience with scenery is basically just fishing in Rock Creek or going to the candy store, both of which I will take pictures, of course, but I'd like something with some POW!

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Take the Pintler scenic route.

The Anaconda-Pintler Scenic Route in Western Montana : Information, Photos and Maps

Some breathtaking vistas. You can drive the whole thing in your car, and there are places you can get out an hike as well.

Good Luck.

It is mostly gravel, but a trip over the Skalkaho road is a great scenic summer drive worthy of picture taking..

Neighbor told me other day the road is closed due to a mud slide but maybe its open again??
Things are sliding off on our road as well and constantly moving stuff of road to get by. Pretty much don't leave home without chainsaw

Coolidge is cool if you want to see an old ghost town, and is easy to get to. You could get some Cool"idge" pictures of the old cabins. I also liked walking around the old Elkhorn Hot Springs. Snapped some nice pics there. It's very creepy at night with all the animal heads.
