................Sorry, don't know the Christiansens..................my friend's family name is Seymore.

FWIW, here is some electrical service data copied directly from my most recent ELECTRIC Invoice:

.....Provider: Ravalli County Electric Co-op
31 day period covered: ....May 7th through June 7th
Average Outside Temp:....56 degrees.
Total KWH used: 1312.
Total Invoice: $118.87

Important info regarding what this $118.87 pays for:
...Electric power IS MY ONLY source of power.....No gas, no propane....nothing else.
...My house is one floor (2150 sq feet w/ an attached 778 sq ft garage). Garage has it's own electric heater hung from the ceiling...(however I only turn it on in Dec, Jan and Feb).
...I built this house 35 yrs ago and insulated THE HELL OUT OF IT!!! IIRC, R-36 in the 6" walls and R-44 in the ceiling areas. And I have an insulated (but not heated) 5 1/2 foot deep crawl space.

...I have a large refrigerator/Freezer in the kitchen and a large chest type freezer in the garage.
...(13) 150 watt outside Flood lights.
...every room in the house has some type of Electric Heating Units: Baseboard (bed Rms), Wall Heaters Baths & Utility Rm), Toe space Heaters in Kitchen, and (6) fan driven, 'between-the-floor-joists' units that heat the Large Living Room. Plus Electric Micro wave; wall Oven; 65 gal hot water heater; a Washer & Dryer; Electric Cooking Range and an Electric Counter Top Rotissier/ToasterOven, 2 TVs and 2 portable Electric Heaters (one for shower area in each Bath Room, damn tile is COLD on those Below Zero mornings in Dec, Jan and Feb.
...I run a 1 HP GOULD Submersible Pump for my Domestic Well, and a Culligan Iron Removal Unit that back flushes every other night.

No shop or out-buildings.

I live in Hamilton right now. The Bitterroot valley, is a retiree place. If your looking to move here and retire that's good. If your looking for work above min wage? That's not going to happen. I get my health care with the VA, only a 45 min drive to Missoula. Really, 200k wont get you much around here right now.

I am now in Darby, MT and still checking things out. My spouse and I have decided that we would like to be within 1/2 hour drive from Hamilton. We love the area in the entire valley, but prefer down around Hamilton and south.

Hi, GoCatz - Hamilton's another on my list of possible move-to sites. But I notice the crime index is above the national average. Especially rapes and thefts, though assaults and burglaries are troubling, too. Would appreciate the views of someone who lives there.

There are lots of things that could be the same or different.

Reading local newspapers can help understand local reality and change.

As for the matter of total population, Ravalli County has probably gained about 2,000 people in 5 years. 42k becomes 44k. Up a couple households per week.
