This area of montana interests me, my only issue is figuring out what people do for jobs, granted, i dont know the cost of living there either. It seems to be heavily seasonal, unpredictable, ect. So what do people do for jobs, as well as to lower the cost of living (what is it btw)?

Back when my wife did travel nursing, they were ALWAYS offering sweet deals to work as a nurse in libby. We were very intrigued, found good deals on land by montana standards around there as well. We never did pull the trigger because of the whole superfund asbestos stuff and us having kids. I don't think there's a whole lot in the way of decent paying jobs besides healthcare.... But could be wrong as we never lived there. Yaak intrigues me as I love remote areas....

Towns in that region are primarily the remains of old logging towns or old mining towns. The US Forest Service will have a few year round employees, as well as, schools and small medical clinics.

I only know one person in Troy, she's a teacher. She'll be gone in another year. The kids are great, pay not so.

Hard question to get an answer for, eh? It looked to me, upon passing through that area, that logging and forestry jobs would be the most common, with far fewer(and likely already held by locals) jobs in the construction trades. Probably best to have a business that will not be affected by a move, or a job that lets you telecommute. Much like most other remote parts of the west, in that regard. Most areas like that have no shortage of local people looking for work, and blue collar jobs is where many of them go. And they get there first, because they hear about them first.
