It's a very small town without much amenities in a beautiful location. That's about all I can say.

1,000 people. Average age 52 (national average is about 37). Stillwater Mine is the big employer. 30 miles to Red Lodge (time of travel varies by season). 60ish miles to Billings city limit. About 20 to Columbus. Buying or renting doesn't look that pricey but the selection will be pretty limited.

Yeah the mountains are nice (especially in short summer), though they are a ways further down the road (20 plus miles).

Thanks for the responses. What is important is that I would be among a more Senior population, and beautiful location if I go ahead and apply to a 65+ rental community that I spotted online in Absarokee. If anyone else wants to add some FYI, I would appreciate it.

Government data says 25% of people there are 65plus compared to national average of 14%. Good luck.

Weather might be close to what nearby Columbus gets https://wrcc.dri.edu/cgi-bin/cliMAIN.pl?mtcolu
though it could somewhat snowier. Maybe 50 plus inches per year?

There is a clinic in town. https://www.sclhealth.org/locations/...mily-medicine/

Absarokee gets deep snow & it remains all winter. Compared to communities 15-20 miles away it is much more wintery.

It is great grass country for summer grazing--just not a good place to winter.
