Hello all;

Im looking at a piece of property south of Laurel, in the Moser Dome area. The building site is up on top of the property and wide open, I have concerns about the wind during the winter. I've heard it can be brutal across the ridge tops.
Thanks for any insight

I'm not sure about that specific area but if there are wide open spaces with no trees chances are the wind will get pretty strong.

I'm about a mile south of Laurel. My house is sheltered by a hill between me and the prevailing western wind, and in my yard it stays near to calm, but at the top of that hill right behind me, I wouldn't be surprised to see horses fly. And even when it's dead calm at ground level, the wind can be ROARING overhead and mature trees bent over in the middle. That oughta tell you the value of having a sheltering hill, or at least a stout tree patch.

Any exposed location is going to get hammered when it blows. Worst wind hasn't been in winter, tho -- it's been during summer storms. Couple weeks ago the Laurel airport (which is probably about as exposed as your hill) recorded sustained wind at 40mph, with gusts up to 60mph. This isn't an everyday thing but we probably get this or near to it half a dozen times a year, and that kind of wind often comes with hail.

Wasn't sure where that was, but on the map I see it's east of Silesia. It's probably pretty nice down on the flat, before the road turns. But beyond that -- the few established properties have invested in a tree patch, and looks to me like once you get to where the road kinks, there are spots that probably drift shut in winter. So if I were you I'd go talk to locals who've lived along there for at least a few years (and aren't trying to sell) and see what they've got to say.

Am also wondering why someone invested in scraping a stretch over a mile long, along one of the ranch roads north of there, in the middle of nowhere. Unless maybe it's a pipeline or some such, but why just a piece?
