Hello,

I have a job starting in Great Falls in mid May and will be moving from Georgia. I am not having any luck finding a rental house on the internet. I am looking to rent a house in some of the small towns within an hour drive of GF. I would need minimum 2br 1 bth and room for my dog. My wife and two kids will be coming with me. I like the looks of the towns Belt, Neihart, Monarch, Cascade, Wolf Creek and Craig.

Does anyone know who I can contact to find a good rental house?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You may have better luck looking to the north of Great Falls but not too close to Shelby as the rental market is tight there too. Try Brady, Dutton, Choteau, Conrad, etc.

You don't want to be driving up from Wolf Creek in winter, and probably not from Belt either -- two stretches of road most likely to be iced up in winter.

Also be aware that an hour's drive in summer can be two hours in winter. The main roads are cleared after storms, but snowstorms don't follow a tidy schedule that avoids your commute time. An hour to town won't be all of it either; traffic in Great Falls is largely stop-and-go, the city is fairly spread out, and it can take half an hour to get from one end of town to the other.

Check a paper copy of the Great Falls Tribune (your local library may carry it) -- their online classifieds feeds from apartments.com which doesn't look to me like it's anywhere near complete. Offhand I couldn't find a good online rental search for the area.

Check with a realtor, often someone will rent a house that's empty but isn't generating any buyer interest.

Thank you for your responses!!

I found a rental within an hour of Great Falls. I definitley know that there are not very many rentals out there like they are here in GA.

I look forward to living out there!

Nice place to live, and close enough too

The interstate is usually good through there, but watch for ice on the old road!
