Wondering if there are any teachers on the board that are currently teaching in MT? If so, were you born in Montana or a "transplant"? I ask because it seems to be hard to find a teaching position in MT being from someplace else. I have a degree in Special Education and tried to get a job in MT teaching this fall. I even applied for teaching assistant (paraprofessional) positions. I've had plenty years of experience, and good references, but I was never even called in for an interview. I was wondering if it was because the districts preferred to keep the jobs filled by locals? (BTW- I had a local address and a MT driver's license...but it didn't seem to help! Guess my resume gave me away...)

Also wondering if I'd have a better shot at getting back to MT if I return to school and go for a nursing degree???
Thanks!

You could try applying at schools on the Indian Reservations you will have better luck, then once you've been here for a while it may be easier to get work in other areas.

I think there is a program that if you agree to teach on a rez for two years then you get student loans forgiven. I don't have details and I could be mistaken but it may be worth looking into.

Thanks amyflorida...you are so correct!

rickers~ I have considered that...only thing, I taught in a bush village in AK and the native population didn't like us whites very much. There was absolutely NO support there and we were fought the whole way. Do you happen to know how to get a job on the res, or where I can look to find job postings? Thanks!
