I see a lot of pictures of billings, the grass seems brown in all of them, does itt ever turn green? Can you grow a garden there? What are the winter time activities?

It's always brown in billings, the wind absolutely never stops blowing and you can't grow anything at all. No reason to even post about it, Billings doesn't even exist ! Just joking.

It's brown a lot because it doesn't get a huge amount of rain, just like any other area of the western great plains.

hi jim ya these pics i posted show billing brown because as you see on the date stamp they are taken in winter time and billings is still on the planet earth and things turn brown during the winter. i'll post new ones soon to show how everything is in blossom. and the wind does not blow all the time mainly just during the spring. we just had a wind storm this last week and had stuff knocked down. but check back in a week or so and i'll post new pics of billings in bloom. oh and ya we have community gardens and lots of people have gardens. and there's large plots in the city were people are growing food and running small family farms. winter time activities?? all the snow sports cause there's a ski lift in or towards red lodge. billings is flooded with casinos and there's lots of live entertainment. we have an ice skating rink and a pro ice hocky team and a pro football team semipro anyway. they are called the outlaws and have their own place here in town. we have a symphoney and chamber orchastras and a band. there are lots of concerts year round and plays as well. we have an opera company too. there's lots of cultural activities acturally that keeps people getting out and about during the winter.

Thank you for that clarification. My wife thinks she would like to move there, when she saw the pictures she was wondering if there is enough water to grow a vegetable garden or even turn the grass green. Is there enough snow to snowmobile or do you have to drive to the mountains around Bozeman?

Are there any swsimming holes around the town or is that further into the mountains?

I saw a post about certain parts of town being "the rough area" and having gang activity, how bad is the gang problem there?

The Yellowstone river runs right through town, it's not like it's in the middle of the Sahara desert.
I believe Billings has twelve documented gangs now.

Is the gang activity a real threat or are they just a bunch of punks?

all you need to do to find the facts on gangs in billings and not get scare crap from rickers is contact the billings police department and they will give you the facts. i read the gazette everyday and so am up to date on the crime in billings. and city-data list the crime rate for billings as well below the national average. so the crap about 12 gangs in billings is just that if there is that many then their mettings must be to sit around and knit scarfs for the freezing winters. because our crime rate would certainly reflect this hugh gang problem and in fact the facts speak for themselve we don't have a big crime problem in billings. you can go to crime watch site and sign up for the area and they give you up to date info on all police activity in a zip code. or just go to the billings gazette web site and read the paper yourself, they report all police activity.
as far a water access in billings i've posted on the pic thread several pics of the several parks througout billings that have boating fishing and swimming access. they are lake elmo, two moon park, riverfront park, norms island, and coleson park, just to name some, there are also other point througout that you can access the yellowstone to fish and swim. so i recommend you do your own research on crime rate in billings and don't buy into the scare crap put out by people that don't live here or read the paper.

city data list billings crime rate index for 2008 at 278.5 with the national average at 320.9 so as you see billings is well below the national average for crime .......so rickers this leads me to ask just what are those dozen gangs doing all year round that I should be so worried about?????
