I'm a life-long Arizonan considering a move to Billings and was wondering about the winter weather there. I know it's cold--real cold--but how overcast is it during the winter? I think I could handle the cold winters as long as it was sunny and clear most of the time, but if you don't see the sun all winter long, like in the rust belt, then it's probably not for me. TIA for any info you can give me.

I would say billings for the most part is not too bad.... probably 60% sunny winter and 40% overcast maybe even 70-30.

You get your days. When the wind is blowing usually fairly sunny out, no wind it does get a little overcast but not as bad as the western part of the state.

You have to think about it as the lesser of two evils...
1) overcast, cold, no wind (no windchill), with deeper longer last snow
2) sunny, cold, wind (windchill), snow drifts and shorter lasting snow.

I have lived in both parts of the state and neither has bother me too much. I do have to say though that the overcast and longer lasting deeper snow is more my thing. Wind in the winter time just cuts straight to the bone, and is usually no fun. Anyway just my opinion... goodluck.
