I should have started a thread on this earlier, since the 4th of July is only 2 days away, but I hadn't really thought about it much until now. My husband is working on the evening of the 4th, and I'd like to get out and do something. I don't know anyone in the area, so I'd appreciate any advice on good spots to hang out or celebratory events that are happening. I'm over 21, so age exclusive events are fine. Thanks for any recommendations

Edit to add: I'd prefer to stay in the Monterey, PG, Carmel area, but I might consider going to Seaside or Marina as well.

There's a free parade and concert at night in Monterey: http://monterey.org/Portals/1/pdfs/n...oster-2014.pdf. I would think some of the other restaurants and pubs have things going on as well.

We'll head up to Gilroy to watch the Fireworks. Santa Cruz has fireworks as well.

Years ago we watched the Fireworks at Seaside Beach, by the "Holiday Inn", at the end of "Canyon Del Rey"...

Give them a phone call to see if they still have Fireworks. It might have been July 3, when they had the Fireworks.

Salinas had Fireworks at the Rodeo/Fairgrounds on July 3, I think it was.

Well, I know Monterey stopped doing fireworks 3 (?) years ago. Every night in Salinas for the past week we see and hear them going off

Thank you guys for the responses!

The concert sure looks fun! Do you think you can see the Santa Cruz fireworks from Monterey?

No, the fireworks in Santa Cruz are actually in Scotts Valley which is up from the coast in the mtns vs. over the water: City of Scotts Valley

Alternatively you could drive down to the beach in Seaside where I'm sure people will be doing there own shows. Fireworks are legal in Seaside and Marina as well I believe.

So, how did it go? Here are a few shots I took from some great fireworks at Gilroy High School last night.

It went pretty well, earlier in the day I went to the celebrations downtown. After dark I could see fireworks people were setting off on the beach across the bay from my deck. It was a nice evening.

Thanks for sharing the photos! They are beautiful.
