Doing a cruise from LA to Monterrey and back next week and was looking to see if there was any events going on during the week in that area that would a fun distraction.

Car shows, art fairs, must cruise areas, cool overlooks, anything along those lines...

leaving LA on Saturday and will get into Monterrey on Monday afternoon and then head back south on Tuesday.

Figure will check out the Cannery Row area on Monday evening...

cruise route will look something like this https://goo.gl/maps/u17N25Xu18u

Thanks, T

Doesn't look like there is much in fun events going on for the dates you will be in the Monterey area.

There is more to do around July, August, September.

Drive Safely...

It depends on how much you like to walk/hike. Wildflowers are in bloom with many nice hikes if you're up for it. I recommend checking out Point Lobos in Carmel.

Are you spending the night in or near Pismo Beach on the way north? There is a free Mother's Day concert by the Damon Castillo Band at Dinosaur Caves Park from 1-4pm on Sunday, May 13. Call 805-773-7063 for more info.

If you can delay your departure to Wednesday morning, Peter B's Brewpub in Monterey next door to the Portola Plaza Hotel is providing a brewery tour and craft beer tasting from 5:00 to 6:30pm on Tuesday, May 15 as part of craft beer week celebrations. Cost is $15 per person. Call 831-649-7874 for more info.

From there, it is a very short walk to Fisherman's Wharf and the recreation trail links it to Cannery Row, too. It is probably a good idea to walk for awhile instead of driving right after a beer tasting.

As Derek previously mentioned, I also recommend beautiful Point Lobos for a hike. The Asilomar Beach Trail in Pacific Grove is also very beautiful. If you've never been to the Monterey Bay Aquarium, I recommend that as well.

Thanks for the info! would love to do some craft brewery tours and tasting but i am afraid that would seriously impact the amount of driving that gets done!

Looking now at spot where we can take a break and do some walking/hiking along the beaches and such along the whole route too.

Oh wow, looking at the Point Lobos pictures and trails now. awesome area. Think we will spend time here first, and then if any left over time, head down to Cannery Row.

Not enough time to do the Monterey Bay Aquarium properly so gonna skip it this time.

Thanks for the replies!

thanks again for the info on the visit.
We had an awesome time cruising back and forth thru the mountains (its pretty flat here in Minnesota)! Unfortunately we were not able to make it to the Point Lobos park. Driving thru the mountains tended to take longer than expected and kind of wears you out a bit. we did make down to Cannery Row and hung out on the rocks down at Lovers Point park.
We were able to head south the next day and get thru before meeting the AMGEN Tour of California bike race coming up from King City. I couldn't imagine driving around those corners with hundred of bike riders coming at us! Overall it was a pretty amazing week!

Here is a video of coming off one of the mountains...
