My understanding is there are about 4 gates around the Pebble Beach part of the Monterey peninsula, requiring $10.25 fee to access, or a voucher for having patronized something inside the gates. Where are these gates exactly, and do they impede the direct routes from one side of the peninsula to the other?

Nothing impeding traffic. It would be way slower using Pebble Beach to get from Pacific Grove to Carmel or CA1/CA68. Though I would sometimes use the 17 Mile Drive to bypass accidents that closed or slowed the highway when I was in a company service truck.

Used to be easy to get in back when it was about $5. I would be in a utility truck and get waved through, be in an SUV full of kids and be going to someone's house, or just going to a garage sale on the weekend (garage sale ads would have a phone number the guard would call). Motorcycles could get in via some not so secret paths.

Gates are at Sunset Ave & 17 Mile Drive, Congress at Country Club Gate and SFB Morse at Holman highway in Pacific Grove. Main Gate is Highway 1 and Highway 68 at the roundabout. Carmel gate is the north end of San Antonio.

One more gate is Haul Road, just south of the SFB Morse gate. It's never open to public.
