there is a commercial strip that starts on Masson and St-Michel.
it looked poor and the people a bit eccentric.
is it the Francophone version of Mile End but in its earlier stages of gentrification?
just curious
It's a mix really, It's slowly becoming a Francophone Mile-End cause many people from that area or around are moving to Rosemount/Petite-Patrie. But it's also slowly having its own identity, which is typical of a new "hip" hood. There are some awesome brewpubs and restaurants popping up there, really nice to see.
I did not think Mile-End could be considered "non-francophone". I always thought it was kind of mixed. Although sure, Vieux-Rosemont is more wholly francophone.

It is mixed for sure, between English, French and other languages, but I think the general public call it "non-Francophone" because it's much more Anglophone than the Plateau.

oh definitely not non-Francophone, but i meant it in a way that it's a place that has symbolic value to the Anglophone Montreal community. it is considered a hipster mecca for not only Anglophone Montrealers but for Anglophone Canadians. one could even say that it's a destination for everyone Anglosphone in North America.
