Fantastic news for Quebec! nearly 60,000 in population growth in the first half of 2022!
Montreal also had a projected growth of nearly 22,000 people (city limits only), so I think the island will be close to 2,050,000. The city proper is now projected at 1.8M once again.

This population growth is likely to continue across the board in Canada (unless there is another global pandemic in the near future - reaaally hoping not), as the Federal Government is rising immigration levels to half million by 2025.

It's fantastic news to be honest, Canada is a great country to live in and I'm happy more people will be accepted and want to come into Canada.
Alsop the numbers for Quebec are much higher, 60,000 for H1, 2022 and almost 50,000 asylum seekers have entered QC between January to November. Makes me wonder if Montreal will recoup the population loss from covid between 2020-2021
Montreal grew by 14,000 between July 1st 2021-2022. I'm expecting that to increase to 30K at least for 22-23. Lots of families still leaving the island for the suburbs.

I read about that today in the Montreal Gazette as well. What is causing the exodus from Montreal? Is it high taxes, cost of living, politics, desire for more space, or some other reason?
The usual reasons that you hear from families moving out of the city everywhere else.
Big cities tend to be more a bit more messily managed, taxes are higher, there is more traffic, congestion and crowding. Less space. Housing costs are higher.

Add covid to the mix and the current administration is horrible. Also yeah less space, the admin thinks it's okay for 2-3 bedrooms to be 800 sq ft... all their red tape and limits are impacting families the most.
