I traveled thru Morgantown this past weekend, and noticed the development work happening on the west side of I-79 at the Star City exit. What's planned for this area?

Thanks.

It is a new shopping area called "The Gateway." The Triple S Harley-Davidson store will be moving from across the Glenmark Center (off the Airport/Pierpont Rd exit on I-68) to this location. There will also be a hotel, a few restaurants, and maybe a car dealership. This is sort of an addendum to the overall University Town Center expansion project and new business park west of I-79.

Thanks for the quick response. I'm familiar with the Triple S location as I usually use that I-68 exit as I come thru Morgantown. It's so good to see construction going on within WV! Thanks again.

They're getting in place early for when they build the Star City - Mobley extension of I-68.

Hi Suzanne,

It would be easiest to go ahead and rent a car in Pittsburgh and drive down. Clarksburg is only about a half hour or so south of Morgantown on I-79, so that would be about 2 hours south of Pittsburgh.

Really, renting a car is about your only choice. There's one or two round-trip daily bus runs from Morgantown to Pittsburgh, but no rail service and its a bit far (expensive) for a cab ride.

And the drive is really easy. From the Pgh airport, head east towards the City of Pittsburgh for about 10 miles, then take Interstate 79 South, which will take you directly to Morgantown in about 70 miles. As elewis7 said, for Clarksburg you just stay on I-79 for another 30-45 minutes beyond Morgantown.

Mporgantown is close to Clarksburg. It is also a 1 hour 10 minute drive from the Pittsburgh IAP. You don't have to drive through Pittsburgh proper to get to and from the Airport from the West End.

Clarksburg is 1 hour 32 minutes driving time from the Pittsburth IAP.

If you are arriving in Pittsburgh by train or bus, it might take more or less time depending on the time of day and traffic. If it is during commuting hours, you have to get through the congestion for the tunnels to the Parkway West. From downtown Pittsburgh, the drive can be made in as little as 1 hour 10 minutes or it can take 1 hour 45 minutes during commuting hours (Washington, PA... 36 miles north of Morgantown, is also congested during commuting hours along the combined I70-I79 corridor). Add about 23 minutes to that time to get to Clarksburg as long as there are no traffic tieups if you drive the 70mph speed limit.

Just to clarify ... the speed limit on I79 thru PA varies between 55 and 65 mph (with some reduced speed sections), and the speed limit on I79 in WV is 70 mph. I think that the section between Washington, PA and Clarksburg is scenic. Hopefully Suzanne will be driving during the daylight hours.

I agree. The most scenic parts of the drive, in my opinion, are between Waynesburg and Morgantown, and between Morgantown and Fairmont.
