They are recruiting from the Philippines. WVU medicine employees received email that a contracting company was identified for this purpose.

I agree with this. Morgantown is lucky that it is diversified from an employment standpoint. We are doing very well compared to other areas of the state.

However, I do see the poster's point that most available jobs are not well paid and do not keep up with the cost of living here. The median home price is $215-225 K. Morgantown WV Home Prices & Home Values | Zillow I personally have noticed $250K as an average. A nurse (considered a well paying job here - not the norm you see listed in the classifieds) would struggle if they are single to pay either price.

There really is a gap in available housing as another poster noted for people making $25-40K income in this area.

What was formerly considered "middle class" seems to now be borderline poverty or at best "struggling".

This may just be part of a national trend. I read recently that the number of Americans with less than $1,000 in savings is up to a whopping 69%. Savings Survey: 69% of Americans Have Less Than $1000

Not to get OT, but just want to note this: the majority of my posts have been about road conditions and the unnecessary expense I incur by living here. One of my friends just had a $600 bill this weekend due to pothole damage. His other car is chronically out of alignment and tires wont make it past 20K miles due to uneven wear. When many are literally living paycheck to paycheck this has to be factored in too.

bump

I've heard through the office grapevine that Lyon Tower will close after the Spring 2017 semester to start on full scale renovation for Lyon Tower.

It appears to be consistent with the 1 Tower a year renovation system. Towers will be completely renovated by 2020.
