A contract exceeding $17 million for renovation of the former Federal Building in Morgantown, and turning it into the county's justice center, has been awarded to a Pittsburgh contractor who submitted the lowest bid.
One of the commissioners pointed out long ago that the purchase of this building would be a bad move. The others touted that it would only take $1.1e7, making it a good deal. Looks like the dissenting commissioner was right, as the renovation is going to cost nearly twice what they had originally planned.

They needed to do something with the building, which really isn't very old. The thing that concerns me more is the fact that one of the commissioners who approved the bid owns a security firm that gets contracts with the company awarded the contract to do work. That means he is essentially likely to be paid to watch them build it.
It was briefly mentioned as a side item in today's press story. Personally, I believe it deserves a lot more attention than it is getting, but in today's world we have become accustomed to politicos finding ways to enrich themselves at the public trough, so it isn't much of a news item.
